Air Fryer Apples are deliciously, tender, sweet and full of cinnamon spice. You can top cereal, granola, ice cream or have them as a side to dinner. It's like a yummy apple pie without the crust or turning on your oven!

My air fryer is a great appliance that I use to cook a recipe if I don't want to use my oven. Or if I am cooking something in the oven at a certain temperature and can't adjust it for another recipe. I've cooked vegetables, steak, roasts and seafood in an air fryer and the food always comes out delicious. Try some of our favorites:

    • Air Fryer Radishes with dipping sauce
    • Air Fryer Eye Round Roast
    • Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin Medallions
    • Air Fryer Boneless Thighs

    Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to cook apples in an air fryer:

Chopped apples in bowl, melted butter, spices, brown sugar.

    Ingredient Notes

Granny Smith Apples: I like to use these since they are firm and not too sweet. This is the type I use for making pies for the same reason. You can add the amount of sugar you prefer.

Spices: Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg are typical spices you would find in an apple pie. You can also add just a pinch of cloves if you'd like that flavor.

Brown sugar: We are using this instead of of white granulated. I think it gives the apples a richer, caramelized flavor. You can add a bit of maple syrup if you want but not too much or the apples will get too mushy.

What are the best apples to air fry?

It's best to fry or air fry varieties of crisp apples so that they hold their shape and texture. Try some of these:

    • Granny Smith- These are firm and tart. They hold up well when frying or baking.
    • Honeycrisp - Just as the name says, they are crisp and firm. They are a bit sweeter than Granny Smiths.
    • Pink Lady- These are my favorite snacking apples. I have found they vary in crispness based on how soon they are purchased after harvest time in the fall
    • Braeburn- They are also a crisp apples but not as sweet as Pink Ladys.

Step 2: Lightly spray your air fryer with a mister that has vegetable or canola oil.  Or use a silicone brush to lightly coat the basket.  Preheat at 390°F.  for about 3 minutes. Place apples in basket and cook for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Give them a shake and continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes or until apples are cooked through.  Cut one in half to see if they are tender enough for you.  If not, cook another 1-2 minutes. Serve warm.

Recipe Tips to make the best Fried Apples

    • Make sure to choose firm apples to make sure they don't get mushy during cooking.
    • Cut pieces in similar size to ensure even cooking.
    • Be sure to preheat the air fryer and pat apples dry to give them a head start to caramelize and not to just steam in a cold fryer.
    • You can lessen the sugar content by using Allulose, Monkfruit or Erythritol.

What are some ways to serve Air Fried Apples?

We served our fried apples with Grilled Pork Chops and some red cabbage. It had the perfect sweet and sour flavors that we love. Here are some other ways you can serve the apples:

    • My husband's number one favorite way is over Breyer's Vanilla Bean ice cream. If apple pie is not available, this is a close second!
    • Try spooning a few over a nutty granola and yogurt.
    • The apples would be great over a crunchy cold cereal or a bowl of warm oatmeal.
    • You can add them to pancakes, crepes, or waffles. Or drizzle over a pound cake, angel food cake or a quick bread.

If you tried this recipe, I'd love if you gave it a 5 star rating. This tells me what you like and want to see more of. Thank you!

Here are some sugar free cakes I love that would be delicious with the apples:

    • Slice of apple cake, ice cream on plate and platter of apple cake.

    • keto pound cake on board

    • keto angel food cake with pudding frosting on plate with strawberries

    Description

Air Fryer Apples are deliciously, tender, sweet and full of cinnamon spice. You can top cereal, granola, ice cream or have them as a side to dinner. It's like a yummy apple pie without the crust or turning on your oven!

    Ingredients

    Scale
    • 2 large Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored, pat dry with towel and cut into 1 inch cubes.
    • 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter
    • 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ¼ ground ginger
    • ¼ ground nutmeg

    Instructions

    1. Lightly spray your air fryer with a mister that has vegetable or canola oil.  Or use a silicone brush to lightly coat the basket.  Preheat at 390°F.  for about 3 minutes. *
    2. In a medium bowl, stir together the apples, butter and spices.  Stir to completely coat the apples.
    3. Place apples in basket and cook for 5 minutes.  Give them a shake and continue cooking for another 5-6 minutes or until apples are cooked through.  Cut one in half to see if they are tender enough for you.  If not, cook another 1-2 minutes.
    4. Serve warm.

    Notes

*Add both tablespoons of brown sugar if you like your fried apples to be sweeter.

    * I prefer not to use the canned non-stick spray since it's not recommended on the air fryer basket.

*My fryer is a Phillips XXL and goes up to 390°.  If yours only goes up to 375°, that's fine, the apples will just need an  extra few minutes to cook.

*You can easily double the recipe and if all the apples don't fit in an even layer, cook in two batches.

*Store any leftovers in a covered container in the refrigerator.

*You an freeze the cooked apples in an airtight container for 2 month.  Defrost overnight in the refrigerator but they will be much softer after defrosting.

These apples are perfect with pork. But hubby especially loved them with his vanilla ice cream. Please feel free to leave a star rating and comment.
