Green beans, aka string beans, are a favorite vegetable to serve as an easy side dish for dinner. Using only a handful of ingredients, we love kicking up the big flavor in different ways, perfect for busy weeknights. Some of our favorites: Blackened Green Beans, and Mexican Green Beans.

    Ingredients

Green beans, garlic, spices, olive oil, parmesan cheese.

Step 2: Add beans to a skillet in a single layer over medium-high heat.

Step 3: Saute' the beans for 3 minutes.

Pan fried green beans in skillet.

Step 4: Add up to ¼ cup water and continue cooking beans for another few minutes, depending on how soft you like your beans.

    Recipe tips

    • Use fresh green beans. This recipe has not been tested using canned or frozen beans. If you want to use frozen green beans, try this recipe instead, Roasted Green Beans.
    • Make sure the beans are dry and that you use a large enough skillet to allow the green beans to spread out. They will cook more evenly that way.

    How to make Parmesan Crisps

For an extra special treat, I like to make some parmesan crisps to serve along with the green beans. They are also soooo delicious in a salad or soup.

Use about 1 tablespoon of freshly grated parmesan and place on a baking sheet pan lined with parchment paper or silicone to prevent sticking. Lightly press down into small circle. Cook in a preheated 350°F oven for about 5 minutes or until light golden brown. You should be able to get 12 crisps per baking sheet.

Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days or store in the refrigerator for up 2 weeks. They will lose some of their crispness the longer they are stored.

    Serving Suggestions

    • These Parmesan green beans go really well with so many main dishes. We often serve them with Pan Fried Pork Tenderloin, Blackened Flounder and Beef Stroganoff.
    • They are also delicious in a salad with your favorite seasoned chicken or beef. Drizzle some tasty dressing such as lemon dijon vinaigrette or creamy balsamic.

    Description

You will love these Garlic Parmesan Green Beans that have seasoned green beans sautéed until crisp tender and sprinkled with delicious parmesan cheese. For an extra topping, serve with a few parmesan crisps.

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 1 pound fresh green beans, rinsed, drained and patted dry. (ends trimmed off)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 2 teaspoons garlic paste or garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon all purpose or italian seasoning (choose your favorite)*
    • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, finely shredded

    Optional Parmesan Crisps

    • ¾ cup parmesan cheese, finely shredded

    Instructions

    1. Add oil, seasonings and beans to a bowl and stir well to coat the beans.
    2. Heat large skillet over medium heat.
    3. Saute' the green beans for 3 minutes.
    4. Add ¼ cup water to skillet and cook beans until crisp tender.*
    5. If you like your beans crispier, you can add less water or let it cook away and then saute beans for another minute to crisp them.

    Optional Parmesan Crisps

    1. Heat oven to 350°F.  Line a large baking pan with parchment or silicone liner.
    2. Place about 1 tablespoon cheese on pan.  Lightly press down into a small circle.
    3. Bake for 5 minutes or until light golden brown.  Watch carefully, they can burn quickly.

    Notes

*We like to use McCormick garlic, onion and black pepper seasoning.  You can use whichever you prefer or just add ½ teaspoon onion powder and ¼ teaspoon more pepper and garlic.

*Depending on how crisp or soft you like the beans will determine how much water you add and how long they cook.  You can cover the pan and let the beans steam a bit longer if you like them soft.  I will take a bite of a bean before adding more water to see if they are done.

*Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.  Reheat in a pan over low heat until hot.  Or microwave for 1 minute.  Use low heat so the cheese doesn't burn.   Freeze for about 1 month.  They will be much softer when you defrost them.
