This delicious Asparagus and Ham Quiche is so versatile, you can serve it for brunch, lunch, or a light supper. It's a high protein, easy meal and this egg dish is adaptable to using some of your favorite ingredients.

Some other delicious breakfast recipes to try: Smoked Salmon Quiche, Tomato and Broccoli Quiche, or Sausage Frittata.

Why this recipe is just so good....

    • Versatile Recipe - Quiche is one of those perfect recipes because it really can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is also so good whether it's fresh from the oven, room temperature or even cold from the refrigerator.
    • Healthy, full of protein - The ham, eggs, cheese and vegetables make this dish very nutritious and filling. And if you use an almond flour or other nut crust, the quiche is low carb as well.
    • Adaptable ingredients - You can easily make some substitutions in the recipe so you can use whatever you have on hand.

    Ingredients

You will need the following ingredients to make Ham and Asparagus Quiche:

Half and half, asparagus, cheese, pie crust, cherry tomatoes, spices, eggs, ham.

    Ingredient Notes & Variations

    • Crust - This recipe uses a pre-made pecan crust since I prefer to keep carbs on the low side. It was delicious choice and added a slightly sweet and nutty flavor to the quiche. Try my almond flour crust using this recipe. You can make a homemade piecrust or buy a frozen or other premade crust.
    • Half and Half - We prefer using half and half since that will give the quiche its creamy filling. I don't recommend 1% or 2%. You can use whole milk, heavy whipping cream or heavy cream as well.
    • Ham - This is a great way to use up leftover ham. But in a pinch, you can ask the deli to slice a ½ pound and chop to use in the recipe.
    • Havarti- It has a slightly sweet, nutty flavor with a creamy texture. Other cheeses such as Gouda, Monterey Jack or Muenster will work as well. Or use a sharper cheese like cheddar or swiss.

How to make Asparagus and Ham Quiche

Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F. Purchase or make your quiche crust.

Step 2: Follow the directions for a premade crust. If homemade, make sure you poke a few holes in the bottom to prevent it bubbling up. Bake for about 5 minutes. Let cool while you make filling.

Step 3: Beat eggs in a large bowl and add remaining ingredients. Stir to combine.

Step 4: Pour into prepared crust. Place on a baking tray to catch any spillovers.

Step 5: Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking for another 30-40 minutes. The quiche is done when a knife inserted about an inch away from the edge of the quiche comes out clean. Bake another 5-10 minutes if needed. Allow quiche to cool at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before serving.

    Recipe Tips

    1. Use full fat dairy for the richest, creamiest taste and texture. You can use milk instead of heavy cream or half and half but don't use non-dairy milk or low fat milk.
    2. Make sure the asparagus and tomatoes are chopped in similar sizes to allow for even cooking.
    3. Use cooked meats in the quiche. The quiche does not cook long enough to fully cook raw meat.
    4. Don't over cook the quiche. I always test the quiche about 1 inch in from the edge of the pie crust. The knife should come out clean. If the center is a bit jiggly, that is fine because it set up fully as it cools. But it the center should not be too liquidity. That means it needs a few more minutes in the oven.
    5. Allow asparagus quiche to cool for 20 minutes before serving. That will make it easier to cut cleanly.

What to serve with an Asparagus Quiche

Ham and Asparagus Quiche is a complete meal in one dish. But, if you want to round out the meal, you could serve it with a simple house salad or a Butter Lettuce salad. I think the crunchy textures compliment the quiche very nicely. You can also serve some rolls or muffins with the quiche.
